The Honeymoon :: Riviera Maya, Mexico

Hello Lovelies!

Let’s just stay after looking at all our honeymoon photos I’m ready for another vacation

I decided to break up the honeymoon posts, today’s will be a brief overview of our week long stay in Mexico!

Originally we were planning to honeymoon in South America, but with a job promotion (the Mr.) and major projects (me) we decided we needed some time relaxing beach side. Since we both love Mexico and were interested in seeing the Mayan ruins it was a unanimous decision to visit the Yucatan Peninsula which lead us to the Playa Del Carmen area.

I quickly called RCI and booked a room at The Grand Mayan – Riviera Maya and off we went.

This is what paradise looks like (from the hotel beach)!

We spent some time poolside, at the swim up bar…..

and lounging in our cabana.

There may have been one or two fresh Pina Coladas

We enjoyed a show.

Took a little trip to see some Mayan ruins – Chichen Itza to be exact.

Visited the oldest Church in the Yucatan.

Browsed local shops and stocked up on vanilla. Yes, vanilla. In my book it’s a must when in Mexico!

The sun might not set over the beach there, but we still experienced some breathe taking sunsets.

Most of all we relaxed, unplugged and enjoyed each others company!

It was so nice to getaway and much needed. The resort was massive and warrants a post of it’s own just like our excursion to Chichen Itza don’t worry I’ll be back with more honeymoon details very soon

Wedding Wednesdays :: Bridesmaid Gifts

Even though it’s been well over a month since our wedding there are still a few details left to share, like Bridesmaids gifts! At first I wasn’t sure what to buy the girls. I thought about making something but realized I didn’t have the time. At that moment Etsy came into play — after searching for a few days and mulling it over with my sister, I ended up purchasing a dainty circle necklace from The Silver Wren and glass earrings from Ava Hope Designs — keeping in mind they would wear the pieces for the wedding (and hopefully afterwards).

This was my first time ordering anything from Etsy and I was extremely pleased with each shop owner. You can bet there will be more Etsy orders in my future.

Wedding Weekend Part 5 – All the little details

It’s finally here the wedding weekend breakdown. Our goal was to pull in natural elements that surround us everyday in Tahoe, without going overboard. I think we accomplished just that.

The boutiques and boutineers were beautifully arranged by Thrands Flowers. While my friend Lauren was the mastermind behind our Save-the-Date and Invitation/RSVP.

Before the wedding our party headed to a local meadow to snap a few photos. I rocked a lovely strapless number by Marisa. The bridesmaids wore silk chiffon dresses in graphite from jcrew. They each picked out there own style – LOVE! Shoes: Nina ‘Forbes’ Peep Toe. The groomsmen rocked charcoal grey suits from a local shop — Side Street Boutique. Everything came together beautifully!

Wedding decor… who knew we would DIY our own
centerpieces, guest book and cupcake stand? Guests climbed A Mountain TOGET+HER and dined at tables named after
various mountain peaks in Tahoe! Yours truly burned each name into mini rounds
Nick cut from Aspen branches (there might be an Etsy shop
in my near future). Instead of a traditional guest book we had a
wishing jar (top left) and provided our guests with colored
pencils to write sweet nothings or draw pictures. Next to the card basket (lower
right)
were pictures of our parents and grandparents on their wedding day (lower
left). Oh and I can’t forget the party favors — local spices Tahoe Blend or Tahoe
Taco from Heart Rock Herb and Spice Co. (upper
right).

As mentioned above our cupcake stand was made by Nick and I.
Aren’t we crafty! Guests had their pick of treats between mini cupcakes and
cake truffles from Cakes by Grace!

The flavors went something like this:

Red velvet cake truffles with white
chocolate and red coral design
Champagne cake truffles with white chocolate
and white glitter
Almond mini cupcakes with italian buttercream and ganache
drizzle
Chocolate mini cupcakes with raspberry filling and chocolate
buttercream
Lemon mini cupcakes with lemon mousse and zested italian
buttercream cream cheese frosting.

*Plus, we cut a vanilla cake with mousse
filling and Italian buttercream.

Whew! That’s a lot of details.. I’ll leave you with a few family shots and us on the beach by our lovely photographer Melina Wallisch.

Wedding Weekend Part 4 – The Reception

Today is exactly our one month anniversary and I’m showing off the reception. I wont go into too much detail because next week I’ll break everything down. We received all the photos from our photographer on Friday so everything you see below is by the lovely Melina Wallisch! Like the ceremony the reception was held in the North room at Edgewood Tahoe. Here’s the run down of the evening…

The tables were named after mountain peaks in Tahoe.

There was a wishing jar..

and the blending of two families…

All our hard work paid off!

Guests indulged in mini cupcakes & cake truffles for desert.

The speeches were amazing and there was tons of love in the air.

She might only stand three feet tall, but this girl can cut a rug… and she did.

Wedding Weekend Part 3 – The Ceremony

It’s been nearly three weeks now. Today I’m talking about the ceremony. Since we live in a place where people vacation N & I figured why not get married in our backyard… as in Tahoe. After looking at a few venues we decided on Edgewood Tahoe for three reasons: one it’s on the Lake, two the breathe taking views and three because it’s one of the best places to watch the sunset. We opted for the North room and married on the deck over looking the Lake! Our friend Dreu married us in front of 80 close family and friends. There was a lot of love in the air.

Wedding Weekend Part 2 – Rehearsal Lunch

It’s hard to believe N & I have been married for two weeks now. Boy time fly’s by when you’re having fun! I know you can’t wait to see the actual wedding photos (sneak peak), but today we’re talking about the rehearsal. Since we decided to marry on a Sunday our rehearsal was Saturday at 11 a.m. — easy peasy. After we practiced walking and celebrating the entire wedding party headed to lunch at one of our favorite spots on the lake, Riva Grill!

We laughed some more, enjoyed some of the best fish tacos around, drank a wet woody or two and thanked our wedding party with a few gifts (for another post). All in all the meshing of the two families and friends shaped up nicely! Here are a few photos from the day.

Wedding Weekend Part One – The Bridal Shower

Since the majority of our guests were from out of town (San Diego, South Dakota, Colorado, Minnesota, New Jersey etc. ) we planned the bridal shower the Friday before the wedding. My mom, step-mom Sue and sister went to town decorating my front yard. The boys were even enlisted to help string some lanterns between the trees — before heading out to play disc-golf.

The week leading up to the wedding Tahoe was experiencing crazy thunder and lighting storms. Just our luck another one rolled in Friday. It rained a tad before guests arrived, but we were able to enjoy lunch outside before it really picked up. I’ve never seen a group of women break down an event so quickly before that day. After lunch we moved the party inside, played a few fun games and socialized. I enjoyed every minute of it!

Wedding Wednesday’s :: DIY Cupcake Stand

Well we’ve been busy bees again
working on the house and DIYing for the wedding. Remember when I blogged about DIY details here, well the tiered cupcake stand is
done!

Here’s how it all went down…

Those who know us well know we have a
plethora of wood rounds drying in our backyard at all times. With that said, we
headed out to the yard and picked out what we thought were the best looking
rounds.

Nick
then went to town cutting the rounds into smaller 1″ to 3″ thick rounds
with his trusty chainsaw.

(Tip:
Safety first make sure you have the correct protective gear on —
eye-ware, ear plugs, chaps and footwear)

Once Nick
cut about 10 -13 new rounds I gave them a light sanding, but left them looking
natural.

Since we didn’t want a lacquer finish
we only applied one light coat of tung oil.

Here’s what they looked like after
one coat. (not completely dry)

Next we picked 3 different size
rounds to create a tiered look.

Using an aspen branch and chop-saw
Nick made some “legs” for height.

Once the legs were cut we placed them between the rounds, made some marks and started drilling pilot holes for screws.

After about 3-4 hours (including dry
time) our rustic DYI cupcake stand looked a little like this! Since we already had
everything it cost us $0 and little hard work and determination.

We can’t wait to see what it looks
like covered with cupcakes in only 18 days! I can’t believe it. The plan is to use the remaining rounds as centerpiece stands. Did you DYI

Wedding Wednesdays: The Invitations

The invitations went out last week — woo-hoo! It’s amazing how the time is just flying by. We love how Lauren was able to carry the Tahoe Mountain theme from the Save-the-Date to the invites and RSVPs. Now we just hang tight, while friends and family get back to us.

The RSVP is a postcard making it easy for guests to pop back in the mail.
