]]> Tis the season for all things apple and pumpkins. The last three years we’ve made the hour trek from Tahoe to Apple Hill with two other families for all things apple. Our trip this year was a well oiled machine and ended with wine….Yes, in fact the last two years we’ve end at a winery. Because why not.

Thinking about visiting Apple Hill? Here are my tips:

+ Keep it simple. Pick a few places to visit and plan your route ahead of time. This makes the world of difference. I would suggest only picking 2-3 apple farms to visit.

+ Go early. Traffic can be crazy so I suggest arriving at the first farm between 9 to 10 a.m.

+ Check the weather. It was 70-ish yesterday making jeans, sandals and a t-shirt perfect.

+Remember to have fun, eat apple pie and snap a ton of photos 🙂

Our 2017 route/farms we visited:

O’Halloran Ranch + Pumpkin Patch


We start here every year because it’s a tad off the beaten path. This means there are less crowds, but they have the best you pick pumpkin patch!

It makes for a picture prefect backdrop. Now if we could only all the kiddos to look at the camera at the same time. HAHA

Apple Ridge Farms

This was a fairly quick stop for Apple Cider Donuts. We opted to skip the infamous Rainbow Orchards for donuts this year. The verdict… We’ll be back at Rainbow Orchards next year as they serve them to order meaning nice and warm and extremely fresh.

Delfino Farms
This place is the perfect stop for lunch with a big grassy area for picnics, BBQ and pies! World Famous pies to be exact. We grabbed a pie to go, along with a 10 lb box of apples and let the kids burn some energy running around lawn.

They also have a corn maze, face painting, etc.

Boeger Winery
We wrapped up our day here. The grounds are gorgeous, perfect for lunch, and letting the kids play. We grabbed a few bottles of wine, enjoyed lunch and relaxed before heading home. They even have a sand pit for the kiddos!

All in all, it was a successful trip. Now I just need to figure out what I’m going to make with 10 lbs of apples! I’m open for suggestions.

]]> If the title didn’t give it away, I went Apple Pickin’ this weekend!

A few girlfriends and I headed down the hill to Apple Hill
Saturday for some of the tastiest apples around. Oh there was a pumpkin
patch, beer at the brewery, fresh pie & apple cider donuts involved too.

The first farm we went to was a u pick. The owner told us where to find certain apples then let us hunt down some of the best looking apples!

At $1 a pound we couldn’t go wrong. Each of us plan on making a little something different with our apples.

 I’m not sure the name of the first place, but our second stop was at Bill’s Apples & Felices Dolls. Here we enjoyed a nice stroll of the grounds and sampled delicious apples!


Our third stop was at O’halloran’s Apple Trail Ranch. We grabbed a wagon and a headed out to the patch and yes we each left with two medium pumpkins for $4 each! I even picked up some Indian corn for a little DIY project.

 We worked up an appetite pickin apples and pumpkins so we headed to Bohaine Apple Ranch for lunch. They’re known for their pies, but I must say I had the best apple sausage ever and I’m not really a meat eater.
After Lunch
  After a tasty lunch it was time to head to the Jack Russell Brewery. The three of us split the beer flight (12 samples) and I must say there were only 3 I liked: Pumpkin Ale, Raspberry Ale and the Pale Ale.

 Before heading back to Tahoe it was our mission to pick up a dozen (or two) Apple Cider donuts. Good thing Rainbow Orchards was our next stop.
Oh …. here’s me and my big green tractor.

 What a great way to spend the day with the girls. We even made it home in time for the LSU game. Apple Hill is about an hour from South Lake Tahoe located in the Sierra foothills.  Can you guess the recipe I’m sharing tomorrow? Hint: there’s apples in it.
