In effort to keep things 100 percent real around these parts, I’m chatting about our weekend. My sister and her fiancé were in town — there was a lot of rain, wine, good food, and baby snuggles.

This girl and that face! Her little personality shines through more and more everyday! Later this week, a full nine month update is coming to a blog near you — stay tuned.

I tested out some new recipes and they will definitely be on repeat. The photos might not be great, but they both tasted A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

Before my sister headed back to LA, the rain let up so we visited Taylor Creek. Unfortunately, the Kokanee are still not swimming up stream… maybe next week. We were able to snap this cute family photo! How cozy does Emerson look in her little fleece sack!

My Style // Weekend Casual

These days I’ve been spending my weekends working on kitchen, but this weekend I’m heading to LA LA land with miss Emerson! I seriously can’t wait. Sun, good food, beach days and family — what more could a girl ask for?! When traveling I like to be comfy and cute. Well, actually I like to be comfy most days — come on who doesn’t?! Am I right?

When I’m not in the office I’m typically a causal dresser. Shorts + tee + sandals and I’m ready to go! It’s my summer uniform when I’m not wearing yoga pants. With that said here’s my ideal casual weekend look.

Scenes From the Weekend

What a weekend! Sunshine and snow. My husband works four ten’s so every weekend is a three day weekend for him. It’s nice having the extra day to spend together.

Friday I taught my first mommy and me boot camp. I had one client… After breaking a sweat I went and got my hair done. The weather was gorgeous so of course we had to get outside and enjoy it.

We enjoyed the afternoon walking in the meadow just steps from our house.

Saturday we did some chores around the house and went for a mini hike. Roxy loves the water even if it’s freezing. Crazy girl!

The views never disappoint.

Saturday evening we took girlfriend to her first Heavenly Ski patrol party. She slept.

Sunday was a blast celebrating her first Easter even if she didn’t have a clue. We went out to brunch, but sadly she was asleep when the Easter Bunny stopped by so there isn’t any pictures.

Emerson’s first Easter basket! Summer clothes (this and this), bathing suit, hat, book, sunscreen, rattler, headband, and bunny lovely.

All in all I would say it was a great weekend!

Snapshots of the Weekend

I don’t know about you, but it was a gorgeous weekend in Lake Tahoe. I’m talking about 60 degrees and nothing but sunshine!

Friday started with a little mom time. Yup I got a hair cut. Funny thing — I made this appointment in the beginning of January. I guess I was confident I would have the baby before Feb 13.

With a new Valentine in our life this year we kept it really low key. We kicked off Saturday morning with our newborn photo shoot and rounded out the evening with dinner in. Here’s a sneak peek…

Guess who is already fitting nicely into her pre pregnancy jeans? Yours Truly! Oh this made me feel so good. Yes, I’m soft like a marshmallow right now, but I know I’m not too far off from tightening everything up. Fingers crossed I’m cleared to workout this week.

Breast feeding makes you hungry! I don’t think I was ever this hungry during my pregnancy. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m home all day too. I definitely feel like I’m continuously snacking. Here’s what one day over the weekend looked like.

Breakfast: Steel cut oats with almond milk, honey, walnuts and red raspberries
Mid morning snack: Lara bar
Lunch: Chicken Salad
Dinner: Turkey Lasagna with a Kale Salad

I’m pretty sure there were a few other snacks that day like banana with peanut butter, dried mangos or 180 Pops.

We took full advantage of the nice weather with daily walks. I’m working up to 3 miles and at a quicker pace. Right now it’s slow and steady. Oh and the views aren’t bad either.

For a little extra workout I’m wearing my babe during our walks. We personally have the Boba Wrap and Ergo, but have only used the Boba Wrap so far. It’s supper easy to use, our girl loves it and it’s comfortable for mama to wear!

We started baby wise training this weekend and so far so go! Oh, there were tons of snuggles too.

Mocktails, Shakespeare and Girls Night

Happy Monday.

It’s hard to believe the weekend has already come and gone. I actually took Friday off and enjoyed a three day weekend relaxing in Lake Tahoe.

Friday the hubby and I stuck around the house, walked the dog, went to lunch and just enjoyed lounging in the yard. It was perfect!

I even made myself a few mocktails! This is like a strawberry daiquiri without the rum. If had whip cream, a little dollop on top would have finished off this drink. Blend 1 cup coconut water, 5-6 fresh strawberries and a few cubes of ice and ta-da. It’s light and refreshing.

Friday evening I went over to my girlfriend’s house for a girls night in and pasta making!

Saturday we walked the dog along the creek, worked on the yard and enjoyed the summer day.

Saturday night was another girls night (yes, poor hubby). We headed to north to Sand Harbor for Shakespeare’s As You Like It. The venue is set lake side right on the beach. Look at this view!

Of course we had to snap a photo or two before the show started.

We packed a picnic dinner, watched the sunset and got our Shakespeare on. The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival runs Tuesday through Sunday until August 24. If you’re in Tahoe looking for something different this is perfect. Make it a date night or girls night out. They allow you to bring in a picnic dinner and wine! I will definitely do it again next summer.

Sunday wasn’t too eventful — chores, dog walk and preparing for the week.

Weekend Happenings Lake Tahoe Style

Happy Monday!

It was an action packed weekend full of birthdays, kayaking, delicious treats and friends.

We kicked off summer Saturday by floating the Upper Truckee River for a friends birthday. Our crew was nearly 30 people deep. Wonder what that looks like…

After floating for a few hours we headed over to another friends house to celebrate her 30th Birthday! Man we’re getting old. I made some unreal Blueberry Maple Cinnamon ice cream.

Needless to say I crashed hard Saturday night. Sunday was a bit more mellow. After sleeping in till 7:30 a.m. (yes, you read that correctly) I headed to Reno. I won’t bore you with errand details, but I did swing by the local Whole Foods for some tasty treats! Lucky me Northern California’s Whole Foods Market hooked it up. Details coming soon! But I’m currently growing alfalfa sprouts!

The hubby and I wrapped up the weekend with a quick run to the nursery. Our garden is looking good. Well in the front yard at least.

Memorial + Birthday Weekend Recap

It’s Wednesday and I’m back to the grind after a five day weekend! It was a long over due trip home and full of BBQs, shopping, the beach and R&R.

I’ve learned over the years how to time the trip south just right and you better believe we didn’t hit any traffic in LA. We were on the road Friday to San Diego by 5 a.m. Here’s a little how our long weekend went.

On the way down we picked up my Dad in Long Beach and headed to Fladeboe Honda in Irvine — Where I bought myself the best birthday present ever! A new to me car –2010 Toyota Rav 4.

Saturday we went for a nice three mile run along the coast in Carlsbad, CA. I could move back home tomorrow… anyone want to hire me

Post run we headed to Naked Cafe for a quick breakfast.

Since I wasn’t too hungry post run I opted for the blackberry banana smoothie and added spinach from some greens. It was delish.

Of course we followed breakfast with some time poolside before the BBQ started. My mom and Micheal’s backyard is amazing! Very resort like and it even has a salt water pool.

Sunday I took advantage of the sales a the Carlsbad Outlet Mall before heading back to my Dads. Oh and guess who now wears a size 26 jean? That’s right this girl!

Roxy didn’t mind relaxing on the front porch and guarding the house while we detailed my old car, Monday at my dads. It’s now ready to be sold… anyone looking for a used car?

Oh I also picked up a new pair of Nike running shoes.

That’s it folks — Tuesday morning we were back on the road to Tahoe at 5 a.m. I’m looking forward to another short week and a weekend at home.

A Perfect Weekend at Home

Hello Party People!

It’s Monday and we have a long weekend coming up! Who has two thumbs and is excited — this girl. Maybe it’s also because someone has a birthday on Friday and is going to her homeland …San Diego!

We had a very productive weekend at home. So what did we do?

Friday I made this deliciousness of a salad… lime shrimp, avocado and fresh pico de gallo over mixed greens from my weekly veggie box.

Saturday morning it was cold so we focused on cleaning — I know boring, but it seriously needed to be done. Once it warmed up we headed out for a short hike, well more like walk, from our house. There are tons of these red snow plants right now.

After a two hour hike and lunch it was time to whip up a sweet treat for a BBQ later that night. I made these chocolate coconut bars. I’ll be back with the recipe tomorrow. You know something is good when there’s nothing left at the end of the night.

Oh and the view from the BBQ wasn’t bad either!

Sunday we went for our usual hour walk with the dog then turned to housework — outside. My herb garden is ready for the season — basil, thyme, parsley, dill and cilantro. I also planted lemon cucumbers (below) and rosemary (not pictured).

We started to build another upcycled planter for our veggies. The plan is to have two 8×2 planters run along the edge of the grass to help break up the backyard. I would also like to incorporate a bench for additional seating. So far we have four sides of one box constructed. I’m thinking I’ll give them a sanding, then either a coat of poly or white paint. What do you think?

Sunday ended with a delicious veggie stir-fry and homemade almond joy cups! And yes they were a-m-a-z-i-n-g !

psst: Fitness update — Since I started the new eating regimen, nine days ago, I’ve lost five pounds!

Weekend in Review

Happy Monday!

It was such a gorgeous weekend in Tahoe… the way I like it!

Friday night we stayed in, cooked veggie rice bowls and relaxed.

Saturday, we loaded Roxy in the car and headed to one of my favorite spring hikes in Tahoe, Cascade Falls — and yes every year I drag Nick out there. It’s a super quick hike, at about an hour in and out including snapping a few photos.

If you really want to experience and capture the falls spring is the best time for the hike. The falls were full and flowing.

After our morning hike we headed back to the house and made a little lunch before heading to the beach. It was mid 70s this weekend, meaning perfect beach weather! Roxy swam for two hours straight!

Sunday we stuck around the house and tended to the garden — weeding and planting.

….and I watched this little guy (Steller’s Jay) from my front porch.

We also went and looked at new cars on Sunday and might have a better idea of what we want.

Weekend Happenings {Sunsets, Babies & Gardening}

My weekend flew by. I don’t know about you, but I could have used one more day! However, sadly today it’s pouring rain {and trying to snow}.

I might have cheated on my diet again on Friday, but once ever so often isn’t bad — right? After work I met up with some friends at Brooks Bar at Edgewood Tahoe for drinks, appetizers and this amazing sunset!

After Brooks we headed to Apres Wine Company for a another glass of wine and this deliciousness…. strawberry burchetta. I’m still dreaming about it.

Well, we didn’t stop there… Next stop was Nepheles for one last drink. This picture pretty much sums up the night.

Saturday morning I woke up bright and early {picked up my car} and made my way down to San Francisco for my good friend Jenn’s baby Shower {she’s due June12}. We’ve been friends since college and she was even one of my bridesmaids last August!

Sunday we did a little gardening…

…and I finally planted my mini succulents. I used an antique bowl from the hubby’s grandparents farm in Minnesota. Now I just need to add some small pebbles on top of the dirt {maybe another succulent} and ta-da.

N also finished up this bad boy the other week. We picked up this 50s Broyhill dresser and gave it a much needed face lift — think good sanding, fresh coat of walnut stain and tongue oil. The pulls and knobs were sprayed with a valspar {for metals} satin nickle finish. Oh and the best part we only paid $15 for the dresser and already had everything needed to spruce it up. Double Win!
