Happy Fall!

The temps are official lower than I like in Tahoe, but that’s ok. I’m talking mid 40’s for the majority of the day, eek. We’re enjoying all things Fall like apple picking and leaf peeping! But with cooler weather comes more layers, cozy jackets and warm fires among other things. While I might not be a fashion blogger I know a thing or two about dressing for Lake Tahoe temps.

Here are my 5 Lake Tahoe Fall Essentials 

A Vest For Layering
I love a good vest for layering over a sweater. Truth be told I have 5 vests, but really only where 3. What can I say I’m a creature of habit. You’ll want a basic quilted vest, puffy and a furry number like the one I’m wearing. Vests are perfect on days that are a bit brisk in the morning, but warmer in the afternoon. It will give you the extra warmth you’re looking for.  I’m currently eying this NAU Ellipsis Down Vest.

Puffy Jack
If you walk around Tahoe for more than 5 minutes you’ll notice the majority of folks are wearing a puffy. Why? Well, my friend because they are super warm and easy to pack. I’ll tell you right now they are also worth the investment. There are only two I recommend the Patagonia Down Sweater Full-Zip Hooded Jacket (it also comes without a hood) and The North Face ThermoBall Full Zip Jacket

A cute pair of Jeans
Trust me ladies leggings aren’t going to cut it. Right now I’m digging Levi’s 721‘s. That’s it

Boots 
While I love my cozy uggs they don’t really cut it when it comes to rain and snow. While Hunter boots seem to be stylish they are not going to keep your feet warm. I suggest investing in a pair of Sorel boots. I’m currently leaning towards these or these!

Mid-weight Sweater
A good sweater is perfect for layering in the morning, but still light enough for warmer afternoons. I recently purchased this Lou & Grey Sweater (FYI, I bought a small so it was a tad oversized) and this Lou & Grey Sweater is sitting in my cart. Call me crazy, but A&F has decent layering sweaters too. This A&F asymmetrical pullover was my favorite purchase last fall! I’m kind of digging this A&F Quilted Sherpa Jacket.

Oh and always pack a scarf! You never know when it might come in handy.

So let’s break it down a little further. Instant Pot seemed to be the IT kitchen gadget of 2017. Did you by one? Guess what I didn’t either, but I still want one and this cookbook to go with it. I also can’t make up my mind about an Airfryer. Do you have one? Are they worth it?

#TargetStyle! Come on, everything is so cute right now. I purchased the Free People knockoffs when they first came out and LOVE them. I wear them all the time and receive so many compliments. Universal Threads also has a number of basic tops to help transition to spring. Oh and the dresses! This one is in my cart!

You can’t leave target without browsing all things home decor. After 8 years we still don’t have patio furniture etc. Well, things are changing this summer! I think some outdoor lights would be a nice touch.

I’m still on the hunt for the perfect area rug and while the above rug might not work in my house I think someone should totally pick it up.

Happy December ladies and gents!

How fast did this year fly?! The first part of 2018 is shaping up nicely for our family too. Between my brother getting married in June and sister welcoming her first baby in April, it’s going to be a very busy first half of the year. Not to mention I have the NorCal Masters competition in January, Crossfit Open, possibly SXSW to see my girlfriend speak, all while logging quality family time, celebrating a number of birthdays, and running a business. Whew, I’m tired just thinking about it.

Anyway, we’re not there yet so let’s just talk about my favorite things because it’s way more fun.

Favorite Treat of the Week
Did you see the brownies I posted on Instagram yesterday? No, well I made the most delicious cake-like brownies. I should also mention they were gluten, grain and dairy free. Some would call that fun free, but they turned out pretty good. Head over to my Instagram account for more details and the recipe!

Best Purchase of the Week
So I’m kind of a diehard HydroFlask fan, but I purchased a 21oz Healthy Human Curve on Cyber Monday because it was only $19.99! Yeah, killer deal. Plus, I wanted to try out another brand. I have a Simple Modern tumbler and while it works it’s not my favorite. I kind of want to pitch it and buy a HydroFlask tumbler…. just saying. Anyway, I love the way the curve feels and so far it keeps things pretty cold.

Favorite Kitchen Tool
As silly as this sounds, my Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker. My trusty slow cooker gets used weekly, sometimes even more. If you don’t have one order one today. Soup, shredded chicken, turkey breast, chili you name it and I’ve probably made it using the slow cooker. I was looking at buying an Instant pot, but maybe Santa will leave it under the tree this year.

Favorite ‘Healthy’ Food Purchase
I love Thrive Market! It took me a while to get on board and try it out, but I’m loving it. I place an order roughly once a month. Basically, I fill up my cart as I need things and then order once I hit the $50 free shipping threshold. Happy Friday!

Without sounding like a broken record, there’s just not enough time in the day/week. Seriously, though. This time of year is jam-packed and I’m starting to feel like I’m spreading myself thin, in all aspects of my life. Although that’s life hopefully, it will slow down soon. The upside is my small little business is growing at rapid speed and sometimes I feel like my business partner and I need to hire an assistant or clone ourselves. Enough work chit-chat, let’s dive into what I’m digging this week!

Soup Weather
Yesterday was a rainy day and the hubs requested Chicken Tortilla Soup. It gave me the perfect excuse to use the slow cooker. This is the third soup I’ve made in the last few weeks. There’s just something to be said about a warm soup on a cold day. What’s your favorite soup?

Christmas Shopping
Have you checked our inbox lately? I’m sure it’s full of emails promoting sale after sale. Like many Americans, I too have started my Christmas shopping, but we do things a little different with our families. For the adults, we do secret Santa through Elfster and then buy for the kids. We also ask our extended families to limit the gifts purchased for Emerson and contribute to her college fund instead. Yes, we are those parents. When it comes to buying Emerson gifts, it’s usually limited to a big gift, PJs, and books. Nothing more. I believe in less is more. I recently read, Why You Should Give Your Kids Exactly 3 Gifts For Christmas — No More, No Less and it only confirmed our process. What’s your take on gift giving? Trust me the child doesn’t go without.

Favorite Kitchen Tool
Any guesses? It gets used daily. Yup, the coffee maker! We have the OXO On Barista Brain 9 Cup Coffee Maker and it’s amazing. We’ve been using it for over a year ago and still love it! It’s worth the price.

Favorite Supplement
Collagen! I started taking collagen in July and have noticed a difference in my hair, nails, and joints. Good Morning Ladies!

Yup, it’s been decided I’m never going to be a fashion blogger. I’m just a mama trying to find pieces that are simple, stylish and most of all functional. Are you with me? So here I am confessing my lack of style, but talking about style. Ironic, right? Anyway, since recently losing 15 pounds I’ve found that my clothes don’t fit very well. Nice problem to have. With that said, I’m slowing swapping out the old for new. I’m looking to create a minimal, stylish (somewhat) and functional wardrobe. While I would love a capsule wardrobe it doesn’t really work when you have four seasons. So there’s that.

It seems as though there’s ALWAYS a sale. Seriously… I wake up every morning to my inbox full of sale alerts. Why would anyone ever pay full price?
