Slower Long Runs<\/strong><br>It took me a while to buy into the idea of running slower to get faster, but wow\u2014it works. Keeping my long runs 60\u201390 seconds slower than goal pace has helped me recover faster and hit my speed workouts stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Strength Training <\/strong><br>I\u2019ve been doing CrossFit 3 times a week, focusing on compound lifts, mobility, and core stability. The difference in my posture and running efficiency is huge. My legs feel powerful, not heavy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Prioritizing Sleep and Nutrition<\/strong><br>I can\u2019t out-train poor recovery. I\u2019ve been making sleep a priority and keeping my meals protein-rich with simple, real-food staples. My energy is steadier, and I\u2019m not crashing mid-run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Midweek Tempo Runs<\/strong><br>These are tough but they\u2019re the secret sauce. Tempo runs have helped me build confidence at race pace and improve my mental toughness when the miles start to feel long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s Not Working<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Neglecting Mobility Work<\/strong><br>I know it matters, but stretching and foam rolling are always the first things to get skipped. My hips and calves are starting to remind me why that\u2019s not a great idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Overbooking Life<\/strong><br>Between family, work, and training, I\u2019ve had to adjust expectations. I\u2019m learning to be flexible\u2014some runs move around, and that\u2019s okay. Missing one workout doesn\u2019t mean the week is a loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Fuel Experiments Gone Wrong<\/strong><br>Let\u2019s just say not every <a href=\"https:\/\/ahappyhealthyhome.com\/2025\/08\/fuel-smarter-why-i-switched-to-real-food-running-gels.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gel<\/a> sits well mid-run. I\u2019m still testing what works best for my stomach, especially on long runs over 14 miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Takeaway<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This training cycle isn\u2019t perfect, but it\u2019s progress. I\u2019m stronger, smarter, and more self-aware as a runner. The biggest win?
