{"id":3074,"date":"2012-09-24T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-09-24T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ahappyhealthyhome.com\/2012\/09\/tough-mudder-ready\/"},"modified":"2019-11-13T07:51:48","modified_gmt":"2019-11-13T15:51:48","slug":"tough-mudder-ready","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ahappyhealthyhome.com\/2012\/09\/tough-mudder-ready.html","title":{"rendered":"Tough Mudder Ready"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\nThat&#8217;s right you know what this post is going to be about&#8230; <b>Tough Mudder. <\/b>Nine months ago a group of 13 girls talked about signing up for the Tahoe <a href=\"http:\/\/toughmudder.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tough Mudder<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northstarattahoe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Northstar-at-Tahoe<\/a>, 10 actually registered and nine ran the race. I was one of nine, but we were one team of 10,000+ individuals who pushed their limits on Saturday, September 22.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\nThis wasn&#8217;t like every other Tough Mudder the elevation gain was 2,000+ ft &nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: x-small;\">(7,500 ft to about 9,500+ ft)<\/span> and at one point we were hiking straight up hill. The advantage&#8230; it wasn&#8217;t as muddy since Tahoe is mostly granite. Donate, the saying is &#8220;all good&nbsp;<strike>tough<\/strike> shoes go to Africa&#8221;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ahappyhealthyhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_3694-768x1024.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/ahappyhealthyhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/IMG_3694-768x1024.jpg\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">\n<b>What I Wore:<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">\n<b><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: normal;\">I&#8217;m extremely happy with everything I wore. I have tons of performance gear, but didn&#8217;t want to chance wearing something newer or nice as I had no clue if I would even keep anything afterwards. At the end of the day I kept all my clothes and donated my shoes.&nbsp;<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shoes:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/New-Balance-Womens-WT875-Running\/dp\/B001L5TLVM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Balance 875<\/a> &nbsp;(Trail Running)<\/li>\n<li>Socks: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merrell.com\/US\/en-US\/Product.mvc.aspx\/29249W\/70003\/Womens\/Siren-Sport-Sock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Merrell Siren Sport Sock<\/a><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>I typical hike in these socks and LOVE them. They never fell into my shoe, even soaking wet or pushing through muddy pits. I highly recommend these socks and you can bet I will be buying more. I didn&#8217;t have any blisters either!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Shorts:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.target.com\/p\/c9-by-champion-womens-athletic-shorts-assorted-colors\/-\/A-13952961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> C9 by Champion&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: x-small;\">(that&#8217;s right I rocked shorts from Target)&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>These shorts surprised me. They were pretty quick to dry and no chaffing from the material!&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Top: Old &nbsp;sports tank from Old Navy <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: x-small;\">(yup that&#8217;s right)<\/span> something like <a href=\"http:\/\/oldnavy.gap.com\/browse\/product.do?cid=77201&amp;vid=1&amp;pid=898253&amp;scid=898253052\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this<\/a><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Again I had no idea what was going to happen. This top worked nicely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Sports Bra: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.target.com\/p\/c9-by-champion-womens-seamless-cami-bra-assorted-colors\/-\/A-13793420\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">C9 by Champion seamless cami bra<\/a>&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: x-small;\">(that&#8217;s right I rocked a sport bra from Target too)<\/span><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>OK &#8211; I just love the sports Bra&#8217;s from Target &#8212; period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<b>Tips:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It&#8217;s not really necessary for gloves, goggles or knee pads. There are a few times you wish you had them but do you really want to carry them for 10-12 miles? No<\/li>\n<li>There are plenty of water stops along the way so there really isn&#8217;t a need for a camel back unless you really need &nbsp;water every 10 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Tighten your laces and make sure to double knot <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: x-small;\">(I never stopped because of this)&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Less is more&#8230; Remember you&#8217;re going to be wet the more clothes you have on the longer it takes to dry<\/li>\n<li>If you wear contacts bring eye drops&#8230; first aid didn&#8217;t have any and it gets dusty from time to time.<\/li>\n<li>Leave cotton clothes at home or at least until after the race&#8230; remember you&#8217;re going to get wet.<\/li>\n<li>Work together as a team even if you don&#8217;t know the person remember it&#8217;s not about your personal time, but teamwork.<\/li>\n<li>Check in with your teammates you might be at a 10, but your mate needs to take it to a 7 for 5 minutes (or vice versus) it&#8217;s about teamwork at the end of the day, right?<\/li>\n<li>Encourage others racers around you, it makes them feel good.<\/li>\n<li>Lastly, HAVE FUN!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<p><b>My take away:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I had a great. I&#8217;m happy with our pace&#8230;.I&#8217;m in shape, but I can be in better shape. Tough Mudder 2013 better watch out!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>\nDo you think you have what it takes?
